Pattern

Orbiting

Orbiting is a repeated pattern in which direct contact has ended but views, likes, reactions or other online traces keep the person visibly present around your activity.

What happens in the interaction

Presence continues without direct contact to answer. Each new trace can reopen the question of what the contact means while leaving nothing clear to respond to or resolve.

Effects on the person receiving it

You may interpret views and reactions, check whether the person appeared again, restrict what you post or wonder whether contact is about to return. The ending may feel repeatedly reopened without becoming clearer.

An important distinction

Seeing or occasionally reacting to public content is not automatically orbiting. The distinction is whether repeated visibility follows an ending or limit and keeps uncertainty active—especially when direct clarification, distance or blocked access is not respected.

If you want to keep track

You do not need to decide what it is. You can note the date and what happened, and read it back later.

See The Pattern

One moment rarely tells the whole story. Look at what repeats over time—and what happens when harm, disagreement or a boundary is named.
