You tell them how you feel. You still carry it alone.
Emotional neglect
Emotional neglect is a repeated absence of emotional attention, responsiveness or care, including after a need has been made clear.
The need remains yours to manage without a single dramatic event to point to. Because the harm is in what repeatedly does not happen, it can be difficult to raise or explain.
You may ask for less, minimize what you need, manage difficult moments alone or stop expecting emotional response from the relationship. The absence may become easier to accommodate than to keep naming.
People have different ways of showing care and may have limited capacity, overwhelm or periods when they cannot respond. The distinction is whether needs can be acknowledged, limits stated honestly and other support allowed—or whether the absence repeatedly remains unnamed and entirely yours to carry.
You do not need to decide what it is. You can note the date and what happened, and read it back later.
One moment rarely tells the whole story. Look at what repeats over time—and what happens when harm, disagreement or a boundary is named.
