They become warm again when you give in.
Affection as leverage
Affection becomes leverage when warmth, touch or emotional closeness repeatedly disappears around disagreement and returns when you comply or give up a choice.
Closeness begins to appear conditional. Your decision now seems to include not only the choice itself, but whether affection, approval or connection will remain available afterward.
You may monitor the other person’s mood, hide disagreement, comply quickly or work to restore warmth before considering what you wanted. Keeping connection may begin to take priority over keeping your own choice.
Affection naturally changes, and everyone can decline touch, sex or emotional availability. Needing space is not abuse. The distinction is whether closeness is freely available and honestly limited—or repeatedly withdrawn and restored in step with your compliance.
You do not need to decide what it is. You can note the date and what happened, and read it back later.
One moment rarely tells the whole story. Look at what repeats over time—and what happens when harm, disagreement or a boundary is named.
